What Size Desk Do You Need?
Sized to your setup, not your room — here's how to figure out the dimensions that actually fit what you do at a desk.

Desk size should be driven by what you actually put on it — monitors, keyboard, notebook, maybe a laptop stand — rather than the biggest desk your room can fit. An oversized desk wastes floor space and often ends up cluttered with things that have no reason to be there.
A Simple Way to Size It
- Single monitor setup: 42–48" wide is usually enough
- Dual monitor setup: 55–60"+ wide, or an L-shaped layout for more surface area
- Depth: 24–30" is standard — go deeper if you're using a monitor arm that needs clamp clearance
- Add a few inches beyond your equipment for a notebook, mug, or elbow room — not a full second workstation
When Bigger Actually Helps
If you regularly spread out physical documents, sketch, or work with a second device alongside your main setup, a larger surface is genuinely useful. But sizing up 'just in case' usually just means more empty desk to collect clutter.
